Marked KS2 SATs critically important!

MAJOR REFORMS TO SCHOOL ACCOUNTABILITY INCLUDING AN END TO COMPULSORY NATIONAL TESTS FOR FOURTEEN YEAR OLDS.

But

Ed Balls said that externally marked Key Stage 2 tests were critically important and would continue as the key source of information for parents and the public about standards in primary schools.

‘Key Stage 2 tests are a robust, objective and consistent source of information for parents at a crucial transition point for their child, and a pupil’s performance at 11 in the core subjects reflects many years of learning at that school.’

One SAT down, two to go

I think James Williams has the key - assessment tasks to check pupil’s understanding and this was twenty years ago.

The fact is that children take SATs tests in Maths and English in years 3,4 & 5 which seems to be generally forgotten in these discussions.

Becta show benefits of Web2.0 in the classroom

A summary of the report here

Key elements so far are
- encourage student engagement
- encourage online discussion
- extend their learning
- sense of ownership

The report into the use of Web2.0 technologies at KS3 and KS4 to be found here.

This report is for KS3 and KS4 but looking at the work at Sandaig and Tom Barret’s Blog then use of these tools in Primary Schools should be high on agendas perhaps.
